When booking kiln dates for CLAY:
Please remember that your clay pieces will need 4-7 days to dry, depending on thickness of clay, between the day you make them and your first Bisque firing. You can schedule your glaze class for any day after your bisque firing day. Glaze firing can occur anytime from the day you glaze & after. **Keep these facts in mind when scheduling class dates with your teachers and kiln dates afterwards.** |
When booking kiln dates for GLASS:
Glass requires only one firing and is best done the day of your class or the next day.
Please remember to allow time in your schedule for make-up classes for absent students for both clay & glass.
If you have any questions at any point of the process please feel free to contact us at art@mcauliffeptsa.org or Donna Johnson at donnajoycej@comcast.net
When booking the kiln on Sign Up Genius:
You will be booking for 24 hour periods as firing programs take 12-24 hrs.
You will need to be present at the end of your 24hr period to empty the kiln so it is available for the next person.
On the form you will fill in:
Your Name
Email address
Teacher name/ Grade
Type of firing Bisque, Glaze or Glass.
Please consider contacting a fellow volunteer to fire classes together, especially with Bisque or Glass which allow for more pieces in the kiln. This will save resources such as time needed to load/unload, money and energy.
If you are new to the kiln please don’t hesitate to ask a knowledgeable peer or one of the Art Team members to help you as you learn.
