When you join the McAuliffe PTSA, you become part of the Washington State PTA (WSPTA) and National PTA, nonprofit membership associations that advocate on behalf of all children. Together we are a powerful voice and a relevant resource for families and communities. According to the WSPTA, studies have proven that membership in a PTA provides your child and other children around you with a greater chance of achieving in school. As a member, you are more likely to be an informed, involved parent. Members are not required to volunteer.
Benefits of being a member There are a number of great benefits available when you become a member of the Christa McAuliffe PTSA. Not only do you become eligible to volunteer and help out at fun PTSA events, but all members also get access to discounts from many nationwide and local businesses through the National PTA and WSPTA (see below for more information). Members have the opportunity to vote on how the PTSA spends the funds it raises, and your family will receive a free McAuliffe student directory, which is published and distributed each fall only for our members. See below for more information about the student directory. By joining McAuliffe PTSA, you also join the Washington State PTA and the National PTA and become a part of the largest child advocacy group in the nation and the largest non-profit volunteer organization in Washington. Student Directory FAQs What is the Student Directory? The student directory is a directory of all the students at McAuliffe. It lists students alphabetically by class and provides information predetermined by the family, typically the phone number and email address of one or more parents/caregivers. Why Do we Have a Student Directory? The goal for producing and distributing the directory to PTSA members is to enable communication between families and to foster a sense of community. This ultimately makes McAuliffe more connected and a happier place to be for students and families. The directory has been used by parents/caregivers to arrange playdates and to ask questions of other parents about general events or specific class events happening at school. How am I Included in the Directory? The information that you provide to LWSD in Skyward is included in the directory unless you opt out through the Directory Information Withhold Process. How Do I Opt Out of the Directory? To keep directory information private, you must request in Skyward that your child’s directory information be withheld before September 14th of each school year. Also, when signing up as a PTSA member there is a check box option to opt out of having information included in the student directory. For more information about information sharing and data privacy in LWSD please visit this webpage https://www.lwsd.org/fs/pages/1080 If you would like to join the PTSA but need financial assistance, you can contact our school counselor Lisa Daniel. Memberships are annual from July 1st to June 30th and must be renewed each year. Please note that if you purchase a membership in May or June, it will expire before the 2024-25 school year begins. Why Support the PTSA? The PTSA offers programs and events to the McAuliffe community and also provides funding for supplies and programs at our school. Thanks to the outstanding support of our families, PTSA members and the school community, we were able to provide financial grants, school events, programs and other contributions during the 2022-23 school year.
