Watch D.O.G.S.

This volunteer program is on hold due to Covid-19.

WATCH D.O.G.S. (Dads of Great Students) is a national program that aims to get dads (and uncles, grandfathers or any other positive male role model) involved in our school by volunteering one day of their work week during the entire school year.   (Or more if you so choose!)  Watch D.O.G.S. members simply help out at the school -- in classrooms, during recess and lunch hours, or anywhere else they can be visible. Kids absolutely LOVE to see Watch D.O.G.S., and they react very positively to seeing dads and other "father figures" helping out at the school.

Hey guys! Sign up to spend a day at McAuliffe with our Watch D.O.G.S. program

The students love when a Watch D.O.G.S. volunteer comes! When you signup on this calendar you will be signing up for the whole school day, 8:45-3:30. Prior to volunteering please make sure you have completed the appropriate district paperwork to be a volunteer. You can find that here.

The Friday before your scheduled day, you will receive an email that has your schedule for that day and some guidelines for being a Watchdog. If you have any questions or special needs, please use the contact form below. If you signed up at dads and donuts and need to change your day, please contact our Associate Principal. Thank you for volunteering and making this a great program!
How It All Began

Watch D.O.G.S. began in 1998 in a single school in Springdale, Arkansas and has since grown into a nationally recognized program that has brought hundreds of thousands of fathers and father figures into the school classrooms and hallways across the country, creating millions of hours of “in school” volunteer time and having a tremendously positive impact on the educational process. Today more than 4,049 schools in 46 states plus DC participate in Watch D.O.G.S.
Program Goals
  1. To provide positive male role models for the students, demonstrating by their presence that education is important.
  2. To provide extra sets of eyes and ears to enhance school security and reduce bullying.

What is McAuliffe saying about Watch D.O.G.S?

Feedback from Teachers:
  • "I remember him-HE WAS GREAT!!!  Send him my way anytime!"
  • "He was excellent!  He just jumped in and helped kids.  Thanks a lot."
  • "Thank you very much!  He read a story to us, went out to recess with us and helped me with putting away netbooks.  Thank you for organizing this operation! "

What dads like you say after spending one day as a WatchDOGS volunteer:
  • "All went well. Very nice interactions with the kids and the staff. Highlights are the high-5s in the hallways. I stopped counting how many I gave. "
  • "It was a great experience working each classroom and playground.  Everyone was receptive and easy to work with. Each classroom had its own experience and the kids were excited to have a Watch Dog there and I felt like a rock star. "

Last year, Dads and Father Figures made a HUGE difference at McAuliffe
  • 40 Watch D.O.G.S. volunteer days!
  • 280 hours of helping kids and teachers!

Let's beat that mark this year!
