Volunteer Opportunities

Picture
The PTSA is powered by its volunteers!    The biggest intrinsic reward of getting involved is knowing that you are helping make a difference in the life of every child who attends McAuliffe.  The extrinsic reward is seeing the smiles on our kids' faces, and getting to know all of the staff and parent "faces" of McAuliffe!  The parent/teacher network is a powerful network!

“Volunteers do not necessarily have the time; they just have the heart.”
Elizabeth Andrew, Author

Volunteer Opportunities

We love our volunteers! There is always some way to get involved in school events and programs. Don't have a lot of time? Do you work during the day but still want to get involved? Want to chair an event or just show up and help for an hour? The possibilities are endless!

Thinking about chairing an event?

Chairing an event is a fun experience that builds skills and gets you involved. The document below describes the ins and outs of chairing an event with the McAuliffe PTSA.

Before you volunteer...

Do you have an idea that would benefit students at McAuliffe?

Lake Washington School District works to provide an effective volunteer program that is rewarding and safe for all students, staff and volunteers. The District tracks and screens all volunteers through an application process which includes a Washington State Patrol background check. Volunteer approvals are valid for two years.

New in 2018-2019, LWSD has launched a new volunteer portal, called Raptor. This new system makes it easier for volunteers to manage their activities. Once approved as a volunteer, you will receive an email providing instructions to access the portal.
LWSD Volunteer Application Process
Would you like to create an event, start a new club, or suggest a school project? We want to hear from you!

Utilize the McAuliffe PTSA Proposal Application to voice your ideas. This document helps to formulate a plan to make your idea into reality. How do you apply? How are proposals rated? Find out here!
Thank you for your support of our school!

Microsoft employee volunteers
Did you know Microsoft will donate $25 for every volunteer hour worked by a Microsoft employee at McAuliffe Elementary?
Volunteer hours not only provide adult support of our students, but can also provide funds needed to purchase resources that enhance the educational experience of our students. If you work at Microsoft, McAuliffe Elementary is asking you to consider donating your hours to our school.

Examples of possible contributions include:
$25.00 for leading a small group in your child’s class (1 hour)
$100.00 for volunteering as a chaperone on a field trip (4 hours)
$162.50 for one day of volunteering as a Watch DOG (6.5 hours)
$1,350.00 for volunteering as a fifth grade camp chaperone (54 hours)

It’s easy to donate your hours through the Microsoft Giving Portal – all you have to do is complete the following steps:

1. Go to https://microsoft.benevity.org
2. Select “Search for a cause” and type “MCAULIFFE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL”
3. Click “track time” button
4. Input number of hours/minutes and the date range
5. Check the skills used while volunteering (ex: education, mentoring, etc.)
6. Verify that “company match” is selected for volunteer rewards
7. In comments section add the following: “volunteer hours worked at Christa McAuliffe Elementary”
8. Rate your volunteer experience
9. Click “confirm volunteer” button

Thank you for your support of our school!
