Math Is Cool
Picture
What is Math Is Cool?

Math is Cool is a math competition for grades 4-12 located in the state of Washington. The competition is hosted by Academics is Cool. Participants will be invited to go to the Math is Cool Masters if they score top 4 in their school and if their school wins top 8 in their division.

Math Is Cool is both a team and an individual competition. Each team consists of 4 students. All teams participate in the team competitions, and all students including those who are not on a team participate in the individual competitions.
  •  [Individual] Mental Math (8 questions, 30 seconds/question)
  •  [Individual] Individual Test (40 questions, 35 minutes)
  •  [Team] Multiple Choice (10 questions, 15 minutes)
  •  [Team] Team Problems (10 questions, 15 minutes)
  •  [Team] Triple Jump (10 questions, 3 submittals, 15 minutes)
  •  [Team] College Bowl (3 sets, 10 questions each)

Registration

Our Math Club is excited to organize teams to participate in the 4th and 5th grade Math Is Cool events. The math level is for 4th and 5th graders, but lower grade students are allowed to participate. Every team needs one parent to act as team coach and point of contact.

Championships Registration Process

Each school is allowed to bring 8 teams (with 4 students each team in maximum), and 8 individuals for each grade. From last year’s feedback, PTSA has decided to give grade 4 and grade 5 students preference in the registration of the competition of their grades. The following process will be used.
  • Jan 8, 2024 @8pm - Jan 19, 2024 @8pm. This is grade 4/5 only team registration. Only the team coach needs to register. A team must be from the same grade as the competition level, and each team needs to register at least 3 students. To maximize the number of participants from our school, if a team only registers 3 students, we reserve the right to assign a 4th member to the team. Team slots are filled first come first serve.
  • Jan 22, 2024 @8pm - Jan 26, 2024 @8pm. The remaining team slots and individual slots are open to ALL grades. Mixed grade team is allowed. First come first serve until 8 full teams and 8 individuals are filled.
