Located on the Sammamish Plateau, Christa McAuliffe Elementary is proud to be part of the Lake Washington School District (LWSD). In Spring of 2013, we were named as a Model PLC (Professional Learning Community) School. Of the 2,281 schools in the state of Washington, just 4 schools earned this distinction. McAuliffe has earned Washington State Achievement Awards in 2013 (Overall Excellence), 2012 (Science), 2010 (Overall Excellence) and 2009 (Overall Excellence).
Our school opened in 1990 and is named in honor of Sharon Christa McAuliffe, a teacher and mother of two, selected by NASA to be the first teacher in space. Our school mascot is the Challenger, which was the name of the space shuttle that she flew on with six other brave astronauts.
It is the mission of Christa McAuliffe Elementary "to ensure all students are empowered and inspired to learn and achieve academic success.” The resources provided by our school district, our talented staff, and supportive parents help to make this happen each day. The education of our students is a true partnership between school and home, which is the key to their academic and personal success in elementary school and beyond.
