Impressive Washington State Chess Championship Results by McAuliffe Students

McAuliffe Elementary won the 14th place team trophy for the 4th - 6th grade section at the recent Washington State Chess Championship. Approximately 65 schools were represented at the tournament held Saturday, April 24, 2010 in Tacoma, with about 1200 students participating from around the state. Washington has the highest attendance out of all 50 state elementary school chess championships, so this is quite an accomplishment.

Six McAuliffe students attended the tournament.

Emanuel Chang won the 13th place trophy (out of 249 participants) in the 3rd grade section for winning four of his five games.

In the 4th grade section, Pratik Padhi received the 28th place trophy with a score of 4.0 out of 5.0; Suhas Surendran took home the 86th place trophy for winning three of his matches; Luke Wall received a trophy for winning 3 games to put him in 93rd place; and Thomas Dulski finished in 129th place (out of 224 participants) with a score a 2.0.

Evangeline Chang came in 12th in the 5th grade section and was honored with the 12th place trophy (out of 209 participants) for winning four of her matches.

Congratulations to these McAuliffe students for their impressive successes at the State Chess Championship!
